They line the right bank of the Misa with a suggestive sequence of one hundred and twenty-six stone arches from Istria
The Ercolani porticoes are one of the most characteristic urban elements of the city. They recall in their name the monsignor Giuseppe Ercolani (1677-1759) who designed them in the middle of the eighteenth century by the will of Pope Benedict XIV, at the century Prospero Lambertini, with the aim of hosting the annual famous Fiera Franca in continuous expansion.
...The Ercolani Porticoes, one hundred and twenty-six stone arches of Istria, run along the right bank of the river Misa. Originally they were to be built on the opposite side of the river, but the crisis of the fair, due to the loss of tax benefits, had the effect of blocking new construction and slowing down the completion of the ongoing works. Today, under the Ercolani porticoes, you can relive and breathe the atmosphere of the golden years of the fair every Thursday morning for the weekly market.
