The Museum of the ancient toy is located in the historic center of Senigallia, in what were the stables of the ancient and imposing eighteenth-century palace Monti Malvezzi, that after a careful restoration and installation by Gabriele Ogiva have returned to their original splendor. The museum boasts a valuable collection of antique toys from the nineteenth century until the immediate post-war period.

The twenty-three windows are accompanied by a historical and artistic path curated by the artistic director Elena Turchi in order to insert the toys in the historical and cultural context that produced them; one of the showcases presents reproductions of ancient toys and dolls of the Roman era, as the famous doll of Crepereia Tryphaena, were performed by Lorenzo and Anna Marconi of the Orient Express of Senigallia, one of the excellences of Senigallia.

To frame the museum of the ancient toy, inside there are a small theater, available for cultural events and a literary cafe, available to theater users, containing fine art and literary books. All in an environment full of charm, elegant and attention to detail, full of suggestions that only rare and ancient things can evoke a place in a few words unique in its kind, that we hope can become a multifunctional cultural center of quality and value, as it is already presented to visitors, available to the city and anyone who wants to exploit all the potential that this place offers.

The Museum will also have the pleasure of presenting the history of the ancient toy to schools, where students will be led by a guide, using the most appropriate tones to the age of children, will take them on a journey through the centuries to discover the fascinating history of ancient toys, those that made the joy of their grandparents’ grandparents, a story little known even by the older ones.

HISTORICAL INTRODUCTION
Since the dawn of time, toys have accompanied the history of man. All it took was a polished stone, a piece of cloth, a piece of wood to ignite the imagination. If we talk about childhood, the discourse becomes more complex. Not in all ages the child and the problems of childhood were addressed in the same way.History, art, together with a sociological psychological and archaeological approach, blend into the complicated subject, but at the same time a kaleidoscopic journey through the centuries, curious and stimulating. In the oldest eras, as in the Greek and Romany childhood was only one stage of life that led to adulthood. In the dark centuries of the Middle Ages, did not exist the concept of childhood.Only in the Renaissance, the invention of movable type printing, created a first distinction between those who were able to read and write. We will have to wait until the eighteenth century, with the Enlightenment, to be able to talk about a childish matter. Jean Jeacques Rosseau, considered the father of modern pedagogy, in his Emile spoke of childhood as a primary and fundamental stage in the development of man, a delicate moment in life on which the child had to intervene as little as possible, In the nineteenth century, the century of positivism, progress, the bourgeoisie, and at the same time of the romantic ideals, the toy had to reproduce every aspect of real life, the one experienced by adults, to which every child had to aspire…here is that the rocking horse and the sword, synonymous with power, were intended for rich children, while the children of craftsmen, the tools of the trade were granted to prepare for the roles of the father. And the girls? They prepared for the future role of wives and mothers through dolls. Victor Hugo wrote by the way: “the first child comes to replace the last doll”. Let yourself be guided in the visit, in a journey through the centuries, through the charm of the toys that for their charm and beauty, continue to nourish the imagination of adults and children, creating suggestions difficult to define and describe.

 PALAZZO MONTI MALVEZZI
The Theatre-Museum is located in the stables of Palazzo Monti Malvezzi, in the historic center of Senigallia, within the ancient walls of the Guidubaldino pentagon. The building was built in the first half of the eighteenth century, by the will of Matteo Monti, rich merchant. Among the most important historical buildings of the city, it amazes for the contrast between the solid and sober lines of its structure and the sumptuous frescoes that decorate the vaults in the noble floors. It was in these rooms that, in 1727, Giovanni Paolo Monti, following the custom of his family and the desire for primacy that was his own and that of the nobility of the time, prone to entertainment and entertainment, that the first private theater of the city was set up.
