Opened in May 2004, the San Francesco cultural centre is housed in the former Franciscan Convent located in Arcevia, near the main square G. Garibaldi. Designed to be the heart of the city’s cultural life, it is spread over three floors. In the basement, there is a conference room, together with exhibition spaces created in the old cellars of the monastery.
...On the first floor is the Civic library, named after Angelo Rocca, founder of the Angelica library in Rome, and the rich municipal historical archive, with documents from the thirteenth century.
On the same floor is an exhibition that compares three different approaches to contemporary art: the figurative by Quirino Ruggeri, the informal by Edgardo Mannucci and the “Nuova Maniera” by Bruno d’Arcevia. The works of the first two artists have been placed according to a chronological itinerary, which begins with portraits in bronze and plaster of the first half of the twentieth century by Ruggeri and continues with the sculptures of Mannucci, who reconstruct the stages of his expressive path, From the figurative beginnings to informal landings, with elegant spirals waving in space. A room is then dedicated to Bruno D’Arcevia, prominent exponent of the Italian Neomanierism. Oil paintings, ceramics, graphics and drawings are exhibited which trace the stages of his artistic evolution.
