The Council Chamber of the Town Hall of Serra de’ Conti represents the institutional and symbolic heart of the town’s civic life. Located on the main floor of the building, this space holds significant historical, artistic, and cultural value and is used for meetings of the Municipal Council as well as for official ceremonies.
...The room is enhanced by an important cycle of frescoes by the Neo-Mannerist painter Bruno d’Arcevia, who, through a visual language inspired by the Italian Renaissance tradition, narrates the history and identity of Serra de’ Conti and its community. The large allegorical scenes depict the themes of Good Governance, craft and entrepreneurial activities, agriculture, and sustainable development, set against recognizable local landscapes and enriched with strong symbolic and civic meaning. The frescoes on the vaulted ceiling, also by the same artist, harmoniously interact with the wall paintings, creating a unified and evocative artistic ensemble.
The Council Chamber also houses other noteworthy works, including paintings and graphic works by major 20th-century Italian artists from the Corrado Cagli Archive, a tapestry of the municipal coat of arms created in 2007 by the Scassa Tapestry Workshop of Asti using the traditional high-warp loom technique, and a late-19th-century traditional rural woman’s festive dress, a valuable testament to the area’s social history and material culture.
The Council Chamber thus stands as a place where institutions, art, and collective memory converge, offering visitors a meaningful insight into the historical and cultural identity of Serra de’ Conti.
