Inauguration of the photographic exhibition “The Infinite Line” by Memè Olivi

The inauguration of Memè Olivi’s exhibition La linea infinita, curated by Stefano Schiavoni and Simona Zava, will be held on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at 9:00 PM at the Nori De’ Nobili Museum in the City of Trecastelli.

The exhibition is the new major project that the Museum hosts in the rooms of the Center for Studies on Women in Contemporary Visual Arts.

The exhibition is a retrospective of the artist Memè Olivi, with a tribute from his niece Amélie Barnathan. The exhibition project offers a selection of Memè Olivi’s vast artistic production, focusing on works created using her favorite engraving techniques, which primarily depict landscapes, natural settings, and cities.

Alongside her work, the exhibition is enriched by the presence of works by Amélie Barnathan, Memé’s niece and a young artist living and working in London, whose visionary and symbolic imagery dialogues with the family legacy, creating a generational bridge between past and present.

The infinite line is promoted by the City of Trecastelli, the Department of Culture, and the Nori De’ Nobili Museum, in collaboration with the Carlo Emanuele Bugatti Association – Friends of Musinf, and is sponsored by the Equal Opportunities Commission of the Marche Region.

Immediately after the ribbon-cutting ceremony and presentation, around 9:30 pm, director Amie Williams’ film The Infinite Line, from which the exhibition takes its title, will be screened. The film poetically recounts the artistic memory that unites Memè Olivi and Amélie Barnathan, offering valuable added value to the initiative.

Participation is free and it will then be possible to visit the exhibition until September 14.

Memè Olivi (Senigallia, 1922 – Rome, 2019), a master of the art of engraving and a refined illustrator, graduated from the Scuola del Libro in Urbino and then continued her studies at the Academies of Rome, Florence and Brera. In the 1950s she worked as an illustrator for major Italian and French publishing houses and fashion magazines. Since 1959 he has lived between Brussels, Rome, Paris and Senigallia, dedicating himself mainly to engraving and teaching. His works, exhibited in Europe, America, Asia and Australia, reveal a delicate and at the same time radical trait. After his death, his work was rediscovered through anthological exhibitions, publications and the film The Infinite Line.  Amélie Barnathan (Paris, 1991) is a visual artist whose work intertwines drawing, illustration and engraving, with a practice deeply rooted in narrative and symbolic imagery. Her works explore themes such as dream, identity, and gender representation, drawing on mythological, psychoanalytic, and historical sources. Trained at the Royal College of Art in London, she received the Jerwood Drawing Prize in 2016 for Unsolemn Rituals, a narrative frieze on female identity. His work has been exhibited at international institutions and fairs between the United Kingdom, France, China and Mexico.
