FROM MEMORY TO PEACE

The City of Trecastelli celebrates Holocaust Remembrance Day, Saturday, January 27, 2024, with the event FROM MEMORY TO PEACE, Inside the Dialogues of Etty Hillesum, which will be held at 6:00 pm at Villino Romualdo, in the rooms of the Nori De’ Nobili Museum.

After the Institutional Greetings and a brief introduction to Etty Hillesum’s life, Laura Pettinelli will give voice to fragments of words and thoughts by the young Dutch-Jewish writer, a victim of the Holocaust, while Martina Giulianelli’s violin will create an evocative and engaging musical accompaniment.

Music and words will make known the incredible lesson of love that Etty Hillesum left with her Diary and Letters, which are a great testimony of altruism and how she herself was able not to give in to hatred even in the face of the greatest injustices and cruelties.

Mayor Marco Sebastianelli and Councilor for Culture Liana Baci affirm – “Etty Hillesum shows us hope for humanity and the path to be taken, the words of his diary and the immensity of his thought reach us powerful and timely. In a world where the tragedy of war seems to have no end, Etty leads us from Memory to Peace because, as she herself tells us, “A future peace can only truly be such if it has first been found by each in himself – if every man has freed himself from hatred against his neighbor, of whatever race or people, if he has overcome this hatred and turned it into love”.

FROM MEMORY TO PEACE, Inside the Dialogues of Etty Hillesum, is promoted by the City of Trecastelli, the Department of Culture, and the Nori De’ Nobili Museum for Holocaust Remembrance Day, a day of commemoration for the victims of the Holocaust and all those who protected the persecuted.
