Di canto … in Canto

The Alva Canto choir from Portugal is coming to Serra de’ Conti.

Cicerchia and singing are the elements of union with the local choir “Francesco Tomassini”. It was the grass pea, a typical legume, that made two (apparently) distant musical realities known and encountered: the Portuguese choir “Alva Canto” of Alvaiázere and the choir “Francesco Tomassini APS” of Serra de’ Conti.

The city of Alvaiázere, in fact, is considered the Portuguese capital of this legume, called cicero, just as the Serra de’ Conti grass pea – due to its variety – has become a Slow Food Presidium. In October 2022, the Serrano Choir was a guest in that city, located along the Camino de Santiago, performing on site and in the beautiful town of Tomar.

The cultivation of grass pea on the one hand and the passion for singing on the other made these two realities much more similar and closer than they thought.

Thus, from July 20th to 22nd, the Alva Canto choir will be in the Marche region and a very welcome guest of the Serra de’ Conti community. This way you will have the opportunity to reciprocate the splendid hospitality you received.

The choir “Francesco Tomassini”, together with the Serra de’ Conti municipal administration, the Association “Festa della Cicerchia”, the Pro Loco, the La Bona Usanza Cooperative, the Research Institute for Popular Religiosity and Folklore in the Marche region, and many local economic organizations that have collaborated in various ways, organized three days of music, culture, tourism promotion, and friendship. In addition to the village of Serra de’ Conti, guests will have the opportunity to visit the Museum of Monastic Arts, the village of Corinaldo, the Sanctuary of Santa Maria Goretti and Urbino (Ducal Palace and home of Raffaello Sanzio).

Thanks to the collaboration of the Corinaldo band and polyphonic choir, the Pro Loco, and the Municipality of Corinaldo, which has provided the patronage, they will be able to perform a concert scheduled for Friday, July 21st, at 9 pm, at the MA Hotel cloister together with the local choir, directed by Ma Letizia Ricci.

On Saturday, July 22nd, at 9:15 pm, they will perform as part of the 25th edition of the choir festival “Di canto… in canto ”which will be held in Serra de’ Conti at the Cloister of San Francesco. On this occasion, the children’s choir T_Junior, directed by Ma Letizia Ricci, and the Tomassini senior choir, directed by M° Mirco Barani, will also perform; on the piano, M° Manuel Marocchi.
