The church was built in 1618, when the Confraternity of Death and Prayer received from the rich owner Angelo Sammarani a considerable legacy, destined to build a church named after San Giuseppee of a hospital for the poor of the country.
...In 1681 the church was entrusted to the priests of the Congregation of the Oratory of San Filippo Neri, who after 100 years decided to rebuild it making it larger and richer. Thus was born the church of San Giuseppe and San Filippo, which houses inside two splendid paintings by Claudio Ridolfi and a series of allegorical decorations related to the Virtues, as well as three paintings by Giovanni Anastasi.
