A real pride of the territory of Arcevia, the ancient Rocca Contrada, are the nine castles, walled villages of three-fifteenth century, largely preserved. These are rural villages, with houses surrounded and protected by mighty fortified walls, from which you can enjoy wonderful views.
...The castle of Avacelli was first established on a hill at the boarder of Serra San Quirico territory. Nowadays it is still possible to see the wonderful stone made entrance gate from ‘300, which was part of the ancient defensive walls. It is interesting also to visit the church of S. Lorenzo (second half of 15th), which preserves inside a stunning clay dossal, which represents the Madonna della Misericordia (16th), attributable perhaps to Ercole Ramazzani.
At the foot of the hill, stands the church of Sant'Ansovino (sec. 11th), the only local evidence of Romanesque architecture. In addition to the cross set in the facade, valuable capitelli are probably of early medieval origin.
